Calvin lives in the Wounded Knee district of Pine Ridge in the Spotted Owl community, or Tiospaye, as Calvin and Lakota elders refer to it in their Native tongue.
Early in 2008, Calvin came to us in hopes that Running Strong could help his family access water.
“We had been waiting for over four years for water and sewer lines,” he recently told us. “There is still so much that needs to be done on the reservation, but this water well you’ve given to us is a really healthy thing, a blessing.”
Thanks to your support, Running Strong was able to drill a water well for Calvin.
He has two daughters and a granddaughter who are also very appreciative of this new addition to their dad’s trailer. Helping families like Calvin’s access water is what makes Running Strong’s water well program so essential.
“Having adequate water has impacted me and my family. It really helps us out not having to haul water for miles, especially when I see a big storm brewing way in the distance!”
